| The D. Yannitelli Tradition | |||
Here at D. Yannitelli Fine Wines and Spirits we pride ourselves on our long tradition of serving the Cold Spring community. |
| For over seventy years that tradition has been a family tradition, starting with the repeal of Prohibition and continuing uninterrupted until the present day. In fact we are one of, if not the, oldest continuing liquor license still owned and operated by the original family after the passage of the 21st Amendment. Below is a brief history of our tradition. | |||
December 5th 1933 - The 21st Amendment repeals Prohibition, ending a thirteen year ban on the manufacture, sale and possession of alcoholic beverages in the United States . Although it's a pretty safe bet Cold Spring wasn't entirely dry. |
| That Same Day - D. Yannitelli Wine and Liquors opens it doors, Donato and Gelsomina Yannitelli, proprietors. The store is originally located at 123 Main Street (now C&E Paint). |
1950 - Donato Yannitelli passes away, control of the store passes to his wife Gelsomina. |
| 1965 - The store is relocated to the recently completed retail mall at 55 Chestnut Street , and opens under the supervision of Albert Yannitell (“Uncle Al”). |
1989 - Uncle Al retires, later moving to Florida , and Donato Yannitelli III takes over the retail location carrying on the family tradition. |
